West Coast SI Conference Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have provided outstanding academic support in the role of SI Leader or Tutor, with significant contribution both to student success and to the success of the Supplemental Instruction or Tutoring Program on their college or university campus.
One-time cash award: The scholarship award will be presented at the West Coast SI Conference. Recipients must be in attendance.
Must be a student enrolled at an accredited community college or university campus for either the current academic term, the term immediately previous to, or the term immediately following the date of application.
The award recipient will be selected based on his/her demonstration of outstanding service as an SI Leader or Tutor, including:

Exceptional understanding of peer-led academic support in a small group environment

Highly effective SI leadership or tutoring (use of innovative learning strategies; strong rapport with students, faculty, and staff; measured student success; etc.)

Commitment to student success

Quality contribution and impact to student learning and the development of SI/tutoring within the applicant’s institution

A 250-500 word personal essay on the value of Supplemental Instruction or tutoring in the applicant’s own life, in the life of the students served, and in the context of the larger academic community

One letter of recommendation from the applicant’s campus SI Coordinator, Supervisor, or Program Director

One letter of recommendation from a faculty member (course instructor, department chair, etc.) who has worked with or directly observed the applicant in his/her role as an SI Leader or tutor.

A current unofficial college or university transcript with cumulative undergraduate or graduate GPA
